Adrienne Kinsella
Adrienne Kinsella is a fine artist, working in a variety of media, focusing on drawing and painting. As a descendant of the Tongva of Los Angeles, issues of access and belonging, or lack thereof, is a theme that spans her work. Whether depicting physical spaces or implied internal landscapes, contemplations of coping mechanisms and attempts to find safety underscore an ongoing search for belonging. Her drawings are rendered with colored pencil on frosted mylar, this semi-transparent substrate echoing themes of transience and the dichotomies of interiors, exteriors and public vs. private spaces. Her paintings utilize oil and acknowledge this media’s historical weight yet simultaneously question this tradition through disjointed subject matter and the act of often rendering these works on paper. Earning her MFA from California State University Northridge with distinction spring of 2021, Kinsella has shown recently at OXY ARTS, Monte Vista Projects and Open Mind Art Space in Los Angeles, among others, and has shown her work nationally. In addition to her fine art practice, Kinsella teaches at Otis College of Art & Design and California State University, Northridge.
