Alex Close

Alex Close's composite abstract paintings explore our navigation through intricate digital and physical landscapes, reflecting her struggle to remember with hyperreal clarity and the interplay between certainty and unreachable data. Her work delves into themes of accuracy, memory, constant vigilance, and the fear of falling behind in a competitive world that sometimes resembles a high-stakes escape room akin to the wild. Her process is multifaceted including dioramas, virtual reality, paper drawings, and digital collages as source materials. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree from OCAD University in 2015, followed by a Master of Fine Art Practice (MLitt) from the Glasgow School of Art in 2017, and a Master of Design Research (MDes) from Carleton University in 2020. She has participated in residencies, projects, and fieldwork both in Canada and internationally.
