Edgard Barbosa

As an artist, my primary focus centers on the distillation of advertising imagery into simpler and repetitive forms, with a primary goal of eliciting emotions rather than fulfilling commercial objectives.

My collage technique involves an origami-like approach, in which I achieve abstraction through folding, as opposed to the conventional method of cutting. This approach is significantly influenced by the analog-to-digital transition of the 2000s and draws inspiration from printed media, and various outdated technologies. To realize it, I employ a combination of scanning and digital manipulation that concludes as a printed piece.

At its core, my body of work serves as an examination between our recent rapid evolution of technology, and the ways society has integrated globalized commercial images and design as a mode of self-expression and self-understanding.
