Jon Williams

Born in Liverpool, Jon Williams has been drawing and painting since early childhood, supplied with old encyclopedia and natural history books by his grandfather, these ignited a fascination with the often over exaggerated savagery of the beasts that stalked their pages. In his early twenties the artist would escape a difficult home environment to spend time at the Liverpool Central library, a building nestled between the world museum and walker art gallery. Moving between these three buildings, inspiration came from taxidermy, gothic literature, baroque art and sculpture, and from art books. Notable artistic influences include Francis bacon, Goya, Heironymous Bosch and Henry Fuseli.

Studying graphic design and going on to study graphic arts at LJMU, the artist has only been painting in oil for the past three years. Works have been included in The Royal Standard summer and winter fundraiser exhibitions in the Baltic triangle and as part of 'Print it!' exhibition at Aire place studios in Leeds.
