Josué Morales Urbina

Josué Morales Urbina, an award-winning installation and sculpture artist in the New York Metropolitan area, explores transcultural displacement in his work. He frequently delves into themes of foreignness and the fleeting nature of memory through contemplative abstract installations. These creations incorporate diverse materials, from everyday objects like drinking straws, coffee beans, toasted white bread, to rubber bands.

Josué's art is deeply rooted in his personal experiences, being born in Guatemala City, Guatemala, and then nurtured as a "third culture kid" across the United States. His art serves as a means of self-discovery and a home for himself, inviting audiences to reflect on these themes.

His artistic achievements include solo and group exhibitions in New York, New Jersey, New Mexico, Oregon and Texas, A Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture alum, he's undertaken artist residencies at the Vermont Studio Center, Centrum residencies in Washington state, and secured the 2023 New Jersey State Council on the Arts - Sculpture Finalist Award. Morales Urbina holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Texas at San Antonio, supplemented by a minor in Art History and Criticism.
