Kris Hicks

Kris Hicks' art explores the vintage, weathered and rustic elements surrounding us that evoke personal memories, a sense of nostalgia and wonderings of days past.

Kris Hicks was born and raised in Tucson, Arizona’s Sonoran Desert surrounded by sunshine and saguaro cactus with the freedom to explore and develop a true love of nature as a 70’s kid. Early on she filled sketchbooks and journals with artistic and poetic dabbling as she learned about Art History, Modern Classics and Humanities in high school.

Kris moved to California’s coast for University, attending University of California at Santa Barbara, then UC Davis where she graduated with honours in Art History and took a few Art Studio courses. Her degree inspired her aesthetic interests in movements such as Japanese Woodcuts, Chinese Landscape Paintings, Impressionism and Post-Impressionism all with their deep sense of human memoirs and place. While briefly back living in Arizona, Kris took Art and Graphic Design courses which provided an inspirational foundation from which she continued learning independently as she taught Elementary school.

Kris moved to London Ontario, Canada after meeting her Canadian husband, Jamie where they have raised two children while working in Education. Kris has been balancing working as a professional artist and teaching over the past 7 years and creatively thrives on the Canadian landscape and distinct provincial styles.

Her work now spans aspects of all three much-loved locales she’s lived; from homages to her desert upbringing with her Barrio Viejo watercolour series, to her nostalgic Motel Chair series and her Beach Bling watercolour series bringing in the beachy vibes of both California and The Great Lakes.

Kris aims for collectors to find personal connections to her work, and enjoy the unique compositions and deep textures she loves to paint.

Kris enjoys accepting commissions if a collector is looking for a unique piece to suit a particular setting or related to a personal memory.

Her work is found in collections all over Canada and the United States, has been juried into Ontario’s Paint Ontario and An Eye for Art and has been sold in galleries such as Westland and Art With Panache in London, Ontario, Marten Arts in Bayfield and online on Saatchi and Gallea.
