I am interested in male fantasy as it has been communicated through visual narrative mediums. I feel that we as women have internalized these fantasies to the extent that our own appreciations of our selves have been irrevocably influenced. Advertising, film, photography, and figurative painting for instance have been shaped by white, Western, male fantasy—I am just another Cindy Sherman, reperforming every male directed female character and model. The simulacrum of male fantasy permeates my identity as a hot blonde artist. How many female artists have managed to shake the directing gaze of male desire? My current and ongoing body of work employs a pulp fiction novel’s main character as the driving psychology for the work: a lascivious, trust fund boy who murders his girlfriend. His monologue directs the work as well as acts as the titles for the current paintings, complicating their visuals with narrativizing text. (The only work finished from this body of work is "I Went to a Psychoanalyst Four Days a Week Up Until Last Month When the Analyst Told Me Some Things I Didn’t Want to Hear and I Walked Out", 2021) EDUCATION 2019 University of British Columbia (Vancouver, BC) BA, Majors in Art History and Visual Arts SELECTED EXHIBITIONS 2021 Peanuts Gallery Online Auction, Peanuts Gallery, Vancouver BC, Canada, Curated by Mark Delong 2019 AHVA Undergraduate Show, University of British Columbia, Vancouver BC, Canada.
