Amber Larks

My newest works center around mysterious glitches, shimmers, and waves of light. I’ve been interested in light since childhood, when I first learned that the light we see from stars belongs to the past. Since I did not grow up in a religious household, science and its possibilities have been a refuge to my unanswered questions. These paintings draw parallels between the unknowns of science and the unknowns of the human mind. They explore topics including higher dimensional beings, the human condition, and mental health. The figures in these paintings are recognizable, but off-kilter enough to question their actuality, purpose, and intention. Some are distorted with forces that are not completely understood. I hope these works connect with people emotionally while also inspiring a childlike sense of enchantment. These pieces are a tribute to new possibilities, new perspectives, and new discoveries.
