Arielle Tesoriero

Arielle Tesoriero (b. 1997) is a painter and sculptor from the rural Eastern Shore of Maryland. Growing up in a conservative christian environment, she has always battled with the significance of seeing and being seen as a woman. Tesoriero’s work has recently evolved from painting photo derived portraiture of women gobbling down food, to gaggles of therianthropic gals from her imagination. She narrates the story of a chaotic group of girls whose metaphors play on women’s societal expectations and relationships. Examining symbols of her adolescence by navigating a nostalgic experience of girlhood- she explores the correlation between consumption and power. Her universe is over-stimulating, vulnerable, and terrifying, where symbolism runs rampant. These reoccurring emblems—such as animals, foods, and weapons—allow Tesoriero to tell a complex history of trauma. Manifesting violence, rage, and fear through the facade of her bright and sugary tableau's, she illustrates women’s struggles with their bodies in her fantastical and disturbing circus.

Tesoriero currently lives and works in New York City and holds an MFA from the New York Academy of Art. Recently being selected as a finalist for the New American Paintings Emerging Artist grant, her work has been featured in New American Paintings, The Untitled Magazine and Create Magazine, among others. Her work has been exhibited across the East Coast and internationally.
