Josefina Ayllón

My artworks are the result of a struggle between fictional portraits and the physicality of the paint. I'm not interested in feigning the reality, using "tricks" like perspective. It is the reality of the painting itself as a bi-dimensional object that I am interested in.

Colour, texture, gesture are fundamental elements in my work. I mainly use thick oil paint to express my mark making.

I am deeply attracted by paintings where the presence of the artist is tangible. I am fascinated by the fact that a handful of paint on a piece of canvas can generate something so intense.
