Munirah Smith-Gray is an artist currently working in Maryland. She works with multiple mediums including oil, acrylic, watercolor and many digital programs. Twisting the audiences' perception is an essential part of the work. A fascination with understanding dark and twisted things provides the fuel for the work. Discovering what makes audiences comfortable and uncomfortable while understanding the importance of the duality that exists within the work is essential as well. The images draw the audience to objects of familiarity and the longer they stay with the work, the more and more it begins to twist their view and perceptions. This shift in perception allows the viewer to become a full participant in the painting, and experience the work in a deeper, emotional, and psychological level.
